Approach to Learning

Our approach respects early childhood and allows young children to learn in ways that come naturally to them.

Our children learn through practical, hands-on and meaningful everyday experiences. A calm and nurturing environment builds confidence and readiness to learn.

Curriculum (Early Years)

We offer a seasonally based, integrated curriculum with a rich variety of activities each of which enables learning across many areas of the curriculum. This allows children to learn in a holistic & meaningful way.

Curriculum (5-6)

Curriculum (5-6 years)

We recognise that the older children need a more challenging experience, including raised expectations from the adults in the setting and a programme of work appropriate to their age, (Key Stage 1 in other school settings).

How we teach

Teachers provide a calm, responsive presence and build positive relationships by tuning in to each child. This encourages the child to explore independently through self-initiated play and activity. Teachers allow the child to be fully in the flow of what they are doing.

Differentiation

Differentiation

We really value the mixed-age Kindergarten learning environment; however, we recognise our children are at different stages so we adapt our approach to ensure that all children’s needs are met.

The Rhythm of the Kindergarten Day

The Rhythm of the Kindergarten Day

Rhythm and pattern underpin the children’s day, with a healthy balance of child-led and adult-led times.

Celebrations and Festivals

Celebrations and Festivals

The seasonal celebrations & festivals celebrated in our school each year are special times when we can reconnect with the spiritual rhythm of the year.

Learning Environment

Learning Environment

We foster the child’s sense of belonging by offering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. We place the child’s emotional well-being at the heart of all we do.

Parents as Partner

Parents as Partners

Parents are acknowledged as the child’s prime carers and first educators. Our teachers take into account parents’ observations when observing, assessing and planning for individual children.

Food

We provide a wholesome snack every day. Making snack with the children is one of our activities. It is an opportunity for the children to work together and then to share the food they have helped to prepare.
